After meticulous preparation, testing and improvements, the FridgeCam is now live and ready to purchase across the UK. This is the world’s first wireless camera that can retrofit into any fridge, old or new. Deemed the “war on food waste newest weapon” by The Guardian, the FridgeCam allows you to see what is in your fridge from the Smarter app on your phone. Whether you’re lying on the beach or simply on your journey home from work, the battle against needlessly overbuying the same items will be eliminated once and for all because, let’s face it, we’re all shopaholics in the grocery store.

The FridgeCam acts as an internal camera for your fridge. One of a kind. You can also track and add best before dates to your fridge items, which triggers the app to alert you when they are about to reach their sell-by date. Looking to replenish your expired items? No problem! The app allows you to generate shopping lists for those products. Gone are the days of long paper lists. The device integrates with other smart home devices such as Amazon’s Alexa and IFTTT to facilitate your life even more. Just ask Alexa, “what’s in my fridge?” to save yourself from picking up your phone to check the app or having to go to the kitchen if you’re in the middle of doing something else. Behold, the future.

With each household in the UK wasting an average £700 on food waste per year, the FridgeCam aims to reduce wastage by prompting users to be more aware of what’s in their fridge at all times, as well as helping people make better shopping decisions. As studies show that people are shopping little and often in different shops, it’s clear that it could not just help reduce food waste but it also encourages people to shop in a smarter and more efficient way, saving time and money.
