Well IFA Berlin 2017 is done and dusted for another year, as we made our fourth annual appearance at the tech showcase earlier this month.
IFA Berlin is the biggest consumer electronics annual event in Europe with the ‘who’s who’ of the tech industry showcasing their latest innovative wares.
Smarter had some big news to share during the show which kicked off September 1.
Starting with ShowStoppers, We showed off our FridgeCam to the world’s press, who were curious to get a glimpse of the first ever wireless fridge camera that is set to revolutionise kitchens around the world starting next month.
We had some big FridgeCam fans in the media at Berlin – check out some of the coverage Smarter received from IFA.
IFA 2017 was the perfect setting for Smarter announce its first FridgeCam partnership with German refrigerator manufacture Liebherr.
The co-branded partnership, which will see Smarter supply its innovative FridgeCam device into every Liebherr fridge is a massive step forward for both Companies, who are invested in the shared vision of the Connected Home future.
This partnership, a first for the German manufacture to partner with a startup, forms the perfect alliance of technology and quality to provide a Smarter future for a traditional industry.

What else we saw during IFA:
While it was certainly an ‘IFAventful’ show for us all at Smarter, we are true tech enthusiasts at heart.
IFA provides a smorgasbord of innovation and design – from the coolest wearables to augmented reality headsets, the show has been running since the 1920s. It’s evolved over time for sure, but today represents the best in class for consumer electronics ahead of CES 2018 in Las Vegas.
The timing is great too – everyone has an enthusiastic ‘back-to-school’ feeling and this year has been no exception.
We love our tech – take a look at what got our attention
The LG V30:
Despite all the iPhone X hype, LG have delivered this gem. This is a cool piece of kit at a time when smartphone sales are falling and people aren’t upgrading or changing their phones as often. The reason? A great screen (size to phone ratio is near-as-dammit perfect) and a fantastic camera, to enable the multi-tasking of palm-sized computer to continue. I do rather love it, it has to be said, and TechCrunch has predicted this to be the biggest announcement coming out of the show. Headphones (or “earbuds”):
Earbuds – okay, okay, I get it. And this is factually correct. They are most definitely not headphones. They are things that sit in the ear. There were lots of them on show at IFA – Phillips, Sony, JBL, amongst others. But goodness, the Bang and Olufsen ones are things of real beauty. Yes, they are expensive. But the lovely extras – they are splash-resistant, have their own leather case and the accompanying app allows you to customise your sound profiles – make that added cost (almost?!) worth it. Real beauty and design-edge in compact form.
Personal assistants delivered via smart speakers
At Smarter, of course we like our smart tech. And our latest products are all compatible with a raft of third-party personal assistant technology, including Alexa and IFTTT. But personal assistants have also been criticised for their sound quality. Smart speakers seek to make this a thing of the past. Going around the exhibition halls, we saw a fair few that we liked and would look nice both in our office and at home – Sony, Harman, Anker, Liebherr’s MIA (Media Intelligence Assistant) and the very cute TicHome Mini.
These are exciting times in tech and this year’s IFA has been no exception. It’s always mind-blowing and exhausting to be here, but truly invigorating to see the best that consumer electronics have to offer.
